In conflict zones, when people don’t know where their next meal will come from, children are often pulled out of school to make money. WFP’s school meals program is a major incentive to keep them in the classroom, providing critical calories and nutrition they can depend on. With each purchase of Prommus Hummus, 1% of sales goes to support World Food Program USA's School Meals Initiative. Helping provide proper nutrition and education to displaced refugee children around the world.
Prommus was born after witnessing the value of fortified foods used to treat acute malnutrition in children during a humanitarian crisis. As a purpose-driven company, we are on a quest to reimagine our authentic family recipes in order to power the generations that stand for a better tomorrow.
SCHOOL FEEDING GOES BEYOND THE PLATE OF FOOD
School feeding programs can help get children into school and help them stay there; studies have shown programs can increase enrollment by an average of 9%.
Reduce poverty by boosting income for households and communities. For families, the value of meals in school is equivalent to about 10% of a household’s income and that can mean substantial savings.
A meta-analysis of school meals programs across 32 sub-Saharan countries showed on-site meals combined with take-home rations (THRs) increased the enrollment
of girls by 12%.
HEALTH & NUTRITION
Well-designed school feeding programs can promote macronutrient and micronutrient improvements in children's diets, leading to enhanced nutrition and health, decreased morbidity and increased learning capacities.
LOCAL ECONOMIES &
Buying local food creates stable markets, boosts local agriculture, impacts rural transformation and strengthens local food systems. These farmers are often parents, helping them break inter-generational cycles of hunger and poverty.
